Photography is one frame doing the whole job. Film is the opposite discipline, and I keep both, because thinking in sequences is a large part of why the stills hang together in the first place.
Treatment

Nothing gets scheduled before there is a document: the idea, the references, the look, the locations, the shot list, and the budget it needs. It is a page or two, it is quick to write, and it is the only way to be sure the film in your head and the film in mine are the same film.
After that it is the usual shape. Pre production and casting, a shoot day or three, an offline cut for notes, then grade and sound. Two rounds of notes are included, and a third is rarely needed if the treatment did its job.
